Starting a Handmade Greeting Card Business

Identify your Strength
Although there are many greeting card companies that sell a variety of cards for different occasions, there are people who prefer handmade cards. Browse through a few stores that sell greeting cards and identify those category of retail cards in which the designs are too plain. Most greeting card companies churn out cards for special occasions like birthday’s and valentines that have some great designs but miss out on “get well soon” cards or “congratulations” cards. You can fulfill this niche by coming up with some excellent designs in handmade greeting cards. Provide a good variety of greeting cards for special occasions too like birthdays and anniversaries so that your product line is more complete. If you make greeting cards with witty one liners or maybe a special greeting card sayings, then that can become your strength.

Market your Product Smartly
No matter how pretty or unique your handmade greeting cards are, unless you market them right you cannot make a sale. Word of mouth only helps in garnering business up to an extent, and unless you do some aggressive marketing, those cards will remain in the shelves. You can sell your handmade greeting cards in small gift shops and novelty stores. Most of these stores, will take a small percentage of the sales for displaying the cards or they might take a small fee. Take these costs into account while pricing the cards. Once your business booms, you can offer these shops (where you retail) a discount if they buy a batch of your cards. Another great way to market your products as well as increase sales is to sell them in craft fares and online craft sites like Etsy, ArtFire and Folksy.

Build your Brand
The biggest mistake that most novice entrepreneurs in a creative business do is to fail to mark a brand or logo on the product. Imagine that a particular customer liked one of your handmade cards, but since you have not developed a logo and marked it on the card, she has no way of referring about your unique card to her friends and colleagues. You can lose potential customers if you do not brand your articles. Create a unique logo just like commercial greeting card companies and stamp it on the back of the card. In this way, the logo or brand becomes instantly recognizable and it will set it apart from other handmade cards.

Save Money Each Month Using Coupons

Years later, I was surfing the web, looking for nothing in particular. I stumbled upon a forum post by a woman who spent $5 for $75 worth of groceries. Always up for a challenge, I craved to learn more.

I am now one of those crazy coupon ladies. I am finally convinced of the power of the almighty coupon. Learn how to save money each month using coupons.

1. Coupons are cash. Plain and simple. Coupons are an actual legitimate form of currency. Not using them is throwing money away. Who throws money away?

2. Not only are coupons cash, but sometimes they are worth more than their face value. This makes coupons even better than cash. Find a grocery store in your area that doubles and triples coupons. Watch your savings multiply. You wouldn’t see that happen with cash.

3. Coupons aren’t just for junk food. Yes, there are a LOT of coupons for junk food. There are also a lot of coupons for paper products, make up, beverages, frozen vegetables, etc. Pretty much the only products you cannot easily find coupons for are meat and fresh produce. Buy those on sale. I know your grocery bill is compromised of more than meat and fresh produce.

4. Coupons are everywhere. Print them online. Cut them out of the paper. Grab them from the entrance of the grocery store. You can even load coupons electronically onto store loyalty cards. It’s ridiculously easy to find coupons nowadays.

5. Coupons allow you to use brand name items. Now, I am not a generic snob. If the generic is cheaper, I always buy generic. With coupons, I don’t have to. Generally when I combine a coupon with a sale, the brand name item is cheaper. Using coupons, I am buying brands I have never been able to afford!

6. Using coupons strategically you can easily save 50-75% off your grocery bill every single week.

7. The biggest savings come when you hold onto your coupons. Find a way to organize your coupons. Wait to use them until you can combine them with a really great sale. This is how the pros shop.

8. Think about how many coupons go unclaimed? Thousands of dollars right back into the advertisers pockets! Stake your claim! They are giving you money! Read the rest of this entry »

Work at Home Ads

There is no quick route to wealth so avoid any sites that tell you otherwise
Legitimate businesses do exist who offer good advice and with only nominal start up costs. But, make sure that you have done your homework to ensure that they are all they say they are.

The clearer and more comprehensive the contact information given, the more likely it is that you have found a genuine site. Once you have found a work at home provider that appeals to your expertise, check out their contact details thoroughly and contact them directly for more information and clarification of what they are offering.

Send the company an e-mail and see how long it takes for them to respond. Call the listed telephone number and note what happens. Talking to a real person on your first try is a mark in their favor. On the other hand, if you reach a recording go ahead and leave a message asking them to return your call. If they don’t return your call you should probably wonder how they will respond if you decide to try to make money online using their services.

Terms of Service
Read all of the terms of service and any other agreements. This is where they will inform you of how and when you will get paid, among other things. Ensure that what they say on their main website, is the same as on their terms and conditions, if they do not then it is not a good sign and I would question their authenticity.

Do they want Money up front?
One of the surest signs of work at home scams is asking you for money to work for them. Unfortunately, so many people fall for it as they desperately try to make a telecommuting living. Remember, you are supposedly working for them, and that means you should be getting paid by them, not the other way around. If any company asks for a fee to work at home for them, then consider it a scam and move on. Read the rest of this entry »

Investing Money in Your Websites

What Kind of Expenses Do Bloggers’ Face?

Anyone running a website or blog will have a few basic recurring expenses (unless they use a free platform): Domain name & website hosting. Those expenses are typically very small ($10 per year for a domain name, and about $4.99 per month for a basic share hosting plan).

Those are about the only expenses a blogger with his or her own domain and website have to spend. But, as a blogger who blogs to make money (and not just as a hobby), I can tell you that I spend a great deal more than that.

Investments that Bloggers or Webmasters Should Make

Some of the expenses that are optional, but highly recommended include: Advertising, premium blog theme design, search engine optimization, various software packages, content development, widget/script development, and more.

Obviously, a typical blogger or webmaster won’t have to pay for all of those things. I, for example, typically enjoy designing my own websites or tweaking themes. So I do this myself. But I do pay for a lot of other things. Submission to high quality directories, advertising on various sites, and even SEO help are all things I have invested money in before. I also invest in any software that helps me work more efficiently.

Was It Worth Spending Money in My Websites?

Yes! While it was very hard for me to justify spending $299 per year on Yahoo’s directory alone, or hundreds in software, I did see a great return on that investment over time. Take my newest project: how to make a website, I have already spent nearly a thousand dollars, and I haven’t even seen a return on that yet, but I will over time. Read the rest of this entry »

Business Performance Management
BPM is another extremely important strategy that almost all companies follow for BIS. BPM consists of a basic module. All the activities and policies of the company are based on this module. It is the foundation on the business framework and as such it is like the pillar of the business practices. BPM of the business is often responsible for a company’s reputation. This is because, the BPM, ordinarily, remains constant for fairly long periods of time. It also helps the employees have a certain level of confidence and feeling of stability.

Benchmarking
In this system, the cost, cycle time, productivity, or quality of a specific process or method is compared to that of another organization that is similar in industry and universally accepted as best practice standard. Like, any IT company would, probably, benchmark Microsoft. In case the disparity of scale is too high, proportional ratings can be used. It is more like having an ambition to perform like a certain “big brother” of the industry. In order to achieve that, you need to have certain practices that need to match it as well. Benchmarking is a concept that individuals use in all walks of life. Not a very difficult concept to follow, right? Read the rest of this entry »
